Welcome to the July issue of CPDR e-News! Happy Fourth of July!! Bring on the celebrations commemorating the adoption of our Declaration of Independence on 4 July 1776! Celebrate with a large serving of patriotism and side orders of fireworks, family reunions, barbecues, parades, baseball games, concerts and hot dogs! (Don’t forget the hotdogs! )

Here is what is happening at the Prostate Center.

Save the date for the Guest Speaker Program—Thursday 2 Aug

Location: WRNMMC (via video teleconference- conference room TBD) and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital (Oaks Pavilion, 1st floor, Room S1.901- Library Lecture Hall).

Information/Support Group Meetings

Meetings are every 2nd Thursday of the month

Date: Thursday 12 July
Times: 1300-1400 and 1830-1930
Location: Urology Clinic (2nd floor, Sunrise Pavilion)

Note for Fort Belvoir: A military ID is required to get on post at Fort Belvoir. Attendees without a military ID need to arrive at the gate about 1 hour before the meeting to complete paperwork for post access. Also bring some form of picture identification.

Family and friends are always welcomed (military and civilian).

Information/Support Group Meetings

Meetings are every 3rd Thursday of the month

Date: Thursday 19 July
Times: 1300-1400 and 1830-1930
Location: River Conference Room, America Building,
3rd floor (next to Prostate Center).

Note: A military ID card is required to get on base. Attendees without a military ID need to call the Prostate Center at 301-319-2900 at least 4 business days in advance to complete paperwork for gate access approval. They will also need some form of picture identification at the gate.

Family and friends are always welcomed (military and civilian).

Educational Resource

Check out the book “Healing Hope-Through and Beyond Cancer” by Wendy Harpham, MD.

Dr. Harpham is a 27-year cancer survivor, wife, mother, grandmother, physician, author and international speaker who has been through nine courses of cancer treatment and years of ups and downs. She shares her insights about illness and healing to help others find their own path. She offers suggestions on how to keep hope energized.

She says “Cancer doesn’t make life uncertain. Cancer simply exposes the uncertainty of life. Cancer makes life feel more uncertain. I’ll keep planning for tomorrow while living fully today.”

Support for you and/or your family is available from our clinical social work team. No referral is needed for an appointment. Just call.
