CPDR's ERG Antibody Leads to Successful Opportunities
February 14, 2011
The Center for Prostate Disease Research (CPDR) and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) - with the Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HJF) for the Advancement in Military Medicine - are excited to announce a licensing agreement with Biocare Medical for the exclusive worldwide sales and distribution of the anti-ERG monoclonal antibody (ERG-MAb).
This antibody has potential to be used for in vitro diagnostics, prognostics, patient monitoring, and screening by immunohistochemistry. The CPDR-USUHS collaborative research endeavor also involves investigators from the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, and Biocare Medical to further study the ERG-MAb and its clinical diagnostic potential.

ERG Oncoprotein

Scientists develop highly specific ERG monoclonal antibody for detecting common oncogenic alterations in prostate cancer.
June 29, 2010
Bethesda, Maryland--Researchers at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) Center for Prostate Disease Research (CPDR), in collaboration with investigators at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology and Walter Reed Army Medical Center have developed a highly specific assay for the detection of ERG oncoprotein that is regulated by prevalent gene fusions present in over half of all prostate cancers. These findings are reported in the advanced online publication of Prostate Cancer and Prostatic Diseases (Nature Publishing Group, June 29), “ERG oncoprotein expression in prostate cancer: clonal progression of ERG-positive tumor cells and potential for ERG-based stratification.”

Help us spread the word to your friends and colleagues (who
are military beneficiaries) so they can be checked for prostate cancer.
Early detection is the key!
Please download and forward the flyer linked below (pdf format) to your friends and colleagues who are military health care beneficiaries -- or post it on bulletin boards at work if retired/active duty military employees. Help spread the word by doing what you can to encourage or persuade your male buddies to get smart about their PSA readings. You know how important this is--- more than anybody! USU’s Center for Prostate Disease Research Provides New Insights Into Common Alterations of ERG
Oncogene in Prostate Cancer
Monday, October 6, 2008
BETHESDA, Md. — In the past three years, ground-breaking discoveries in the prostate cancer field have highlighted that alterations of ETS related genes (predominantly ERG), as a result of a fusion between male hormone receptor regulated gene promoters (predominantly TMPRSS2) and ETS transcription factors, represent one of the most common oncogenic defects in prostate cancer. Researchers at the Center for Prostate Disease Research (CPDR) at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) had originally shown frequent overexpression (60-70%) of the ETS related gene ERG in the epithelial cell transcriptome of prostate cancers. In their continued quest to understand the functional role and clinical utility of ERG alterations in prostate cancer, CPDR researchers have now defined new features of ERG function and expression which will further enhance the potential of ERG as promising biomarker and therapeutic target for prostate cancer.
